The lawn; it is the trophy of every garden. It must be perfectly green, not too long but also not too short, no bald spots and certainly no yellow-ish spots. To achieve this type of lawn, there has to be some work done. What kind of work are we talking about? That, you will find out in this blog.
Mowed grass
Many people have such a collector behind their lawnmower. They collect the grass cuttings and throw them in the green container. If you like a green lawn without flowers, you should never do this. Because every box of grass clippings you dispose of is full of nitrogen, carbon, iron, magnesium and all sorts of other substances. You are impoverishing the soil by removing nutrients. Repeat this and you are left with soil devoid of organic matter and nutrients. Grass loves those nutrients and will wither away. Many herbaceous plants (wild flowers, etc.) just love such a somewhat poorer soil. So you unintentionally create the ideal conditions for all sorts of wild plants. The solution is simple: set your lawnmower to the mulching position or buy a mulching mower. If your soil is healthy, the clippings will fall to the ground between the grass and will be quickly absorbed and broken down by the soil life. If the soil is very unhealthy, it will take a little longer the first few times. But you will be cultivating extra soil life immediately, which will make it go faster after a few times.
Grass nutritions
The best way to combat moss in your lawn is to remove the causes that give moss its chance. Moss cannot flourish in a dense turf, but once it is there it must of course be removed. For this you can use iron sulphate, which will soon make the moss die. You can give it 2 to 4 kg per 100m², dissolved in water or with sand as a filler. The application of ferrous sulphate is best done in dry weather and you repeat the treatment if necessary. You can clearly see that the moss is dying, because it will turn yellow and later brown. Once the moss has been killed, remove it from the lawn using a scarifying rake or machine. Iron sulphate therefore makes your lawn as green as it should be again. Do you need more information?
